the number of后面接復(fù)數(shù)，但是謂語動詞用單數(shù)，結(jié)構(gòu)是：the number of+可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)+三單謂語。

the number of 表示“...的數(shù)量”

后面加可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)，但是因為中心詞是“數(shù)量”，也就是說我們的主語是“the number”,所以后面的謂語動詞要用三人稱單數(shù)形式。

即：the number of+可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)+三單謂語

e.g.我們班的人數(shù)是40人。

The number of students is 40 in our class.

1、The number of business failures has risen.

企業(yè)倒閉的數(shù)量增加了。

2、The number of independent firms decreased from 198 to 96.

獨立公司的數(shù)量從198個減少到了96個。

3、The drug increases the number of red cells in the blood, enhancing oxygen uptake by 10 percent.

這種藥增加了血液里的紅細(xì)胞數(shù)量，從而將攝氧量提高了10%。

4、The number of unemployed people in Poland has grown by more than a quarter in the last month.

上個月，波蘭的失業(yè)人數(shù)增長超過了1/4。

5、After eleven days of growth the number of sprouts was counted.

經(jīng)過11天的生長后，對新芽的數(shù)量進行了計數(shù)。
